It is Christian Brothers and everyone else. Again.
Led by senior Shaw Powell, who finished third with a 15:41 in the individual race, Christian Brothers averaged a split of 16:15 per runner to capture the NJSIAA/M-F Athletic Boys Cross Country team title over runner-up Mendham for their third straight Meet of Champions title and eighth in nine years at Holmdel Park Saturday.
The win also extended their state record to 24 overall.
In comparison to what the Lincroft school has accomplished, Paul VI is No. 2 in team titles with four.
Junior Ben Santos (16:13) placed 15th, junior Chris DeSousa (16:14) finished 17th, sophomore Jack Moran (16:33) was 35th, senior Troy Hill (16:35) 37th, senior Tim Cahill (16:51) finished 65th and freshman Nicholas Sullivan posted a 17:14 for 103rd.
Haddonfield, Cherokee and West Windsor-Plainsboro North rounded out the top five.
Last Saturday, CBA cruised to its 30th Non-Public A state title by averaging 16:15, which is currently No. 9 in Holmdel Park history. Senior Shaw Powell, the top contender for the individual title, won his second straight Non-Public A crown, with a time of 16:00, only the fourth Colts’ runner to accomplish that feat.
